Teen Life in the USA in November 1959

Some historians call it the 'debasement of rock' or the 'end of rock'n'roll' when Fabian, a mediocre teenage singer from Philadelphia dethroned Elvis Presley as the most popular male singer in the USA circa November 1959.

In Brazil, Jeanette Adib's 'Revista do Rock' followed all these US teen magazines and translated some of the articles into Portuguese, splashing photos of Fabian, Bobby Rydell or Frankie Avalon on their covers... but to no avail. These US 'sensations' could not cross over to Latin America due to their being a product made out especially for Television, mainly Dick Clark's 'American Bandstand' beamed straight from Philadelphia, PA to the whole USA. This was an American event that crossed no frontier.

'Teen' magazine 1960.
Bobbby Rydell, Eddie Fisher, Fabian & Frankie Avalon, all Philadelphians...
